Nickel and Nickel Alloy

Nickel has a particular ability to alloy with a range of metals, which has led to the development of a range of alloys with exceptional strength and corrosion resistance (particularly at elevated temperatures) and excellent electrical resistance.

These alloys tend to be expensive, so are used solely for high performance applications such as nuclear and aerospace springs and fasteners, furnace components, pressure vessels.

Performance Alloys

nickel-alloys-200Commercially Pure Nickel (Alloy 200)

Has good mechanical and thermal properties and is used in heat exchangers and electrical industries.

nickel-alloys-400Nickel-Copper Alloys (Alloy 400 or Monel)

Has high strength and excellent corrosion resistance and is used extensively in marine and chemical applications.

nickel-alloys-600Nickel-Chromium-Iron Alloys (Alloy 600 or Inconel)

Has good oxidation and corrosion resistance at high temperatures and is used in furnaces and chemical processing.

nickel-alloys-90Nickel-Chromium-Cobalt Alloys (Alloy 90 or Nimonic)

Has high strength at high temperature and is used in springs and fasteners for the aerospace industry.

Resistance Alloys

nickel-alloys-nichromeNickel-Chromium Alloys (Nichrome)

Has excellent electrical resistance properties and is used as resistance wires in furnaces and heat treatment applications.

nickel-alloys-cupro-nickelCopper Nickel Alloys (Cupro-Nickel)

Has medium resistivity and low temperature coefficient of resistance make these alloys ideal for control resistors and thermocouples.

nickel-alloys-iron-chromium-aluminiumIron Chromium Aluminium Alloys (ICA Alloys)

Is not actually a nickel alloy, but its applications as a resistance material are similar. These are ferromagnetic alloys which are used in electrical heating elements. Can operate at high temperatures, but suffer from higher corrosion than nickel chrome alloys.
