SL NS Tension, compression or torsion springs subjected to low static stress. Magazine binding wires, hangers, staples.
SM   Tension, compression or torsion springs subjected to medium high static stresses or rarely to dynamic stresses. Binding wires, springs, circlips.
DM ND Tension, compression or torsion springs which are subjected to medium high dynamic stresses. Also for wire forms which require severe bending. Circlips, wire rope, lock levers.
SH HS Tension, compression or torsion springs which are subjected to high static stresses or slightly dynamic stresses. Tyre cord reinforcement,
DH HD Tension, compression or torsion springs or wire forms which are subjected to high static stresses or medium level dynamic stresses. Helical springs, compression springs.
  Tension, compression or torsion springs or wire forms which are subjected to high static and dynamic stresses. Small springs, piano strings, cutting wires.
